The conflicts between labour movement and employers were building up in
Winnipeg for many years and the city has also witnessed a small general
strike in 1918. Union leaders had a different view of the government. They
did not trust the government and often argued with it. A large central
committee of 1000 people who were mostly politicians and bankers was formed
to look over the strike. As the word of the strike spread across Canada the
workers declared soliditary with Winnipeg strikes.
