Unions were still considered illegal at this time but the trade unions act made unions legal and it also erased the right of peaceful strikers being arrested during a strike. This act was made by the parliament later in the year of the Nine Hour Movement. After this the union leaders decided to form a union that would the head of all unions and so they formed the Canadian Labour Union in 1873 which stands for 31 unions.
