The strike began exactly at May
15, 1919 11.00am, Thursday after the ballot in which the favourable trade
unionists outnumbered the people against the strike. Very soon after the
strike began, the mail, newspapers, taxis, telephone, streetcar, telegraph,
gasoline milk delivery and other services were stopped. 25,000 to 30,000
Winnipeg workers went on a
general strike.
